Short answer
The best mobile plan depends on the usage profile. Currently, Post Mobile Start for CHF 11.95 per month the cheapest plan with unlimited data and calls in Switzerland; if you need little data, you'll find full-featured plans with calls from CHF 11.95.
Basic rule: The budget brands Yallo, Wingo, Lebara and Post Mobile use the same networks as Sunrise, Swisscom and Salt — at a noticeably lower price. Anyone who doesn't rely on stores and bundle discounts saves the most there.
Yallo — our overall winner
We recommend Yallo as the overall package: not as the cheapest provider, but as the one with the consistently best features in relation to price. Anyone who doesn't want to optimise every franc individually, but wants to sign up properly once, is best served here.
- 5G and eSIM included with all 18 plans.
- Biggest price advantage in comparison: black max for CHF 34.90 instead of CHF 135.00 — CHF 100.10 below the regular price.
- Runs on the Sunrise network with over 99 % 4G population coverage — network quality like the parent company, at a discount price.
- Starting from CHF 19.90 per month (Yallo Swiss Data).

The four questions that matter before signing up
1. How many gigabytes do you really need?
Most Swiss users overestimate their usage. Anyone who's on WLAN at home and in the office often gets by with just a few gigabytes — streaming on the go, however, quickly changes the calculation. The blog article How many GB do I need? shows how to read your actual usage on your phone; Streaming data usage provides the figures for Netflix, YouTube and Spotify.
2. Which network covers your place of residence?
All budget brands run on one of the three major networks: Yallo and Lebara on the Sunrise network, Wingo on the Swisscom network, Post Mobile on the Salt network. So you're buying network quality at a discount price — provided the network suits your location. How to check this before signing up is explained in Check network coverage; the differences between the three networks are compared by Best mobile network in Switzerland.
3. Do you travel abroad regularly?
Switzerland is not part of the EU roaming regulation — «Roam like at home» does not apply to Swiss plans. Anyone travelling in Europe several times a year is almost always better off with a plan with included roaming than with day passes. Currently 61 plans include EU roaming; the comparison can be found in the guides Mobile plan with EU roaming.
4. How long do you want to commit yourself?
Promotional prices with a 24-month contract term are usually cheaper than plans with no minimum term. The difference is small nowadays, though — and flexibility is worth real money if a better offer comes along. Why loyalty rarely pays off with mobile plans is shown by Switch instead of renewing. On cancelling the existing contract: Cancel mobile plan — deadlines and template.
For certain life situations
Some profiles need more than the cheapest price — such as parental controls, multi-SIM or particularly simple operation. For these cases we have dedicated articles: Families, Children, Students, Seniors and Cross-border commuters. Those also looking for home internet will find the packages in the guide Best internet and TV plan — bundle discounts are often worthwhile, see Bundle plan: is it worth it?.
How this page is made
The assignment follows fixed rules: for each profile, we filter the plans by the matching features (such as unlimited data, no minimum term, or roaming allowance) and select the cheapest one from these. Each plan appears only once, so that six different recommendations result.
handy·abo is an offer by MARKTIX AG and is financed through referral commissions. All price and service information in the tables corresponds to the collected provider data. In case of equivalent offers — i.e. with nearly identical price and scope of services — we list partner providers first; the provider highlighted as «Editorial recommendation» is an editorial assessment and not the result of a purely computational evaluation. Where the text refers to the «cheapest» plan, it always means the actually cheapest one. Details in the Affiliate disclosure.
