Frequently asked questions

FAQ: everything you need to know

The most common questions about mobile plans in Switzerland, answered briefly and clearly.

You need a valid ID (passport or residence permit) and a Swiss address. On our comparison platform you can conclude your contract online in just 5 minutes — or have us send you a personal offer.
The three big network operators are Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt. Alongside them there are cheaper providers (MVNOs) that build on these networks — including Wingo, M-Budget, Mucho and others. They often offer the same network quality at a fraction of the price. Anyone looking for particularly good value frequently comes across Yallo as a strong option.
All three Swiss network operators — Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt — cover between 95 and 99 % of the country. The everyday differences are so marginal that they are noticeable only in remote mountain regions. For most people the choice of network is therefore not decisive — price, flexibility and conditions matter more.
No. Monthly cancellable plans give you full flexibility — no risk, no tie-in. They often include 5G and enough data for everyday use. Read the small print: some low prices apply only with a 24-month commitment.
For a plan with 5G, at least 15 GB of data and monthly cancellation, the Swiss market offers very good deals. Plans from the big network operators often include extras that many people do not need. Paying more frequently buys only the brand name — not better network quality.
With a monthly contract you can switch at any time: you sign up with the new provider, request the port — the rest happens automatically. The switch takes 1–2 working days. With a fixed-term contract it is better to switch once the term has ended, to avoid paying twice for two active contracts.
Yes, provided your device is unlocked. Most modern smartphones from Europe, the USA or Asia are compatible with the Swiss 4G/5G network. Check the band compatibility in your device manual — Sunrise uses common international 5G bands supported by most current models.
Important to know: Swiss mobile contracts do not automatically include EU roaming — unlike in EU countries. Anyone travelling abroad 2–3 times a year is clearly better off with a plan that includes EU roaming than with individual bookings. Yallo offers plans with EU roaming on fair terms — when signing up, always check whether roaming is included in the price or has to be booked separately.
We show you the best offers on the market — clearly laid out and filterable by data allowance, price, term and roaming. In a few minutes you find exactly what fits your situation, and you can sign up for your new contract online straight away or request a personal offer.

The service is of course completely free for you.
Yes. eSIM is standard with modern providers — and makes life considerably easier. Whether you want to activate a plan with roaming just before a holiday or cannot wait for a physical SIM in a busy week: with eSIM you are ready immediately. Check in advance whether your device supports eSIM — most current smartphones do, but you should confirm compatibility with the manufacturer or in your device settings.
A good offer combines four things: a strong network, a fair data allowance, monthly cancellation and transparent prices without hidden surcharges. Yallo is a good example — strong Sunrise network, clear price structure, no tie-in. Steer clear of teaser offers with low entry prices that automatically rise after 6 months.
4G is perfectly sufficient for browsing, streaming and social media in everyday use. 5G brings noticeably higher speeds (up to 10 Gbit/s vs. 150 Mbit/s on 4G), faster response times and more stable connections in busy places such as stations or stadiums.

In Switzerland, 5G already covers more than 90 % of the population — anyone living in a city benefits from it today. Many low-cost plans already include 5G.
