Fibre (FTTH) delivers symmetrical speeds up to 10 Gbit/s and a very stable connection, because the signal is transmitted purely optically. Cable (DOCSIS) is somewhat slower on upload but is perfectly sufficient for most households. Whether fibre is available at your address depends on the rollout status in your municipality.
For a two-person household with streaming and home office, 100–300 Mbit/s without any problem. Families with several simultaneous 4K streams, video calls and gaming need 500 Mbit/s or more.
