Most mobile plans in Switzerland have a cancellation period of 60 Tagen oder zwei Monaten – je nach Anbieter aufs Monatsende oder aufs Ende der Mindestlaufzeit gerechnet. Verpasst du den Termin, verlängert sich der Vertrag in der Regel stillschweigend, und du hängst weitere Monate im alten Tarif fest.

You'll find your exact deadline in the contract, in the terms and conditions, or in your provider's online customer account. It will also state whether your plan still has a minimum term. Note down the earliest possible cancellation date and count the notice period backwards: with a two-month notice period for the end of June, your cancellation must reach the provider by the end of April at the latest — not just sent, but actually received.

Another point that is often overlooked: some older contracts automatically extend for another fixed period after the minimum term, while modern plans usually simply continue on a month-to-month basis afterwards. Nummer behalten? Dann kündige nicht selbst!

The most common and costly mistake when switching providers: cancelling yourself first. Because if your contract ends before the number is ported, kann deine Nummer verloren gehen. The order is crucial.

Richtig geht es so: Du schliesst zuerst das neue Abo ab und gibst dabei an, dass du deine bisherige Nummer mitnehmen willst. Do you still have a minimum term? That's no problem either: with the porting request, you can usually choose whether the number should switch immediately or only at the regular end of the contract. This way you avoid fees for early termination and still don't lose a single day of reachability.

Cancelling your mobile plan: step by step

Important: Kündige «auf den nächstmöglichen Termin», falls du das exakte Laufzeitende nicht kennst. So bleibt die Kündigung auch dann gültig, wenn du dich beim Datum verrechnet hast – der Anbieter muss sie auf den korrekten Termin umsetzen.

Sonderkündigungsrecht: Bei Preiserhöhung vorzeitig raus

If your provider raises prices or significantly changes the contract to your disadvantage, you usually have a Sonderkündigungsrecht: You can cancel the plan effective from the date of the change – even during the minimum term and free of charge.

The provider must inform you of such changes, usually by letter, email or invoice insert, and must point out the right of cancellation. Important: the deadline for this is often short. So read such notices carefully and react quickly. In your cancellation, refer explicitly to the announced change and the associated right of cancellation. This makes clear that no fees may be charged for early termination, even if your minimum term is technically still running.
